Offered by the ASEPAM association, this authentic experience will take you to the heart of this astonishing mine on an underground trail almost 1 km long. It’s a sensational exploration that you can enjoy with your family or friends.

L’Aventure des Mines is all about unusual underground discoveries and a real journey into history. The Saint-Louis Eisenthür mine is nothing less than one of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines’ richest mining operations. It was opened in 1549 for its silver ore, and its galleries have been preserved to this day.

Take a mini-hike along a forest path to the mine floor, following in the footsteps of the miners of yesteryear and discovering their history in all its authenticity. After equipping yourself in a cabin in front of the mine entrance, you’ll be ready for total immersion in this underground world. On an underground tour lasting a minimum of 1 hour, you’ll explore this preserved silver mine just as the miners left it in 1570.

It’s an opportunity to see a different side of nature, while enjoying some friendly conversation along the way. In fact, the ASEPAM association advocates a highly participative tour. If you have any questions, your guide will be delighted to answer them.

About

L'Aventure des Mines (association ASEPAM)

For more than 35 years, the "Association Spéléologique pour l'Etude et la Protection des Anciennes Mines" (ASEPAM) has been working to preserve and promote the mining, geological and mineralogical heritage of the Val d'Argent. This mining history is retraced in the permanent exhibition "Les Chemins de l'Argent" presented at L'Aventure des Mines, the association's premises. Throughout the year, ASEPAM's organizers and volunteers offer visitors the opportunity to discover two silver mines: the Saint-Louis Eisenthür mine and the Gabe Gottes mine, two underground routes that were opened for mining in the 16th century and have been preserved just as the miners left them. Specific events are regularly organized (historical reenactment in May, special Christmas visits...), in addition to the archaeological work site taking place every year in July.
