Discover the 2 famous villages and vineyards of Aÿ-Champagne and Hautvillers in the Marne Valley near Epernay, in the historic Coteaux de la Champagne on UNESCO's World Heritage List, planted mainly with Pinot Noir, and visit an independent producer/winegrower family with a tasting of 3 Grand Cru/Premier Cru Champagnes.
The "Must-See" tour lasts 3.5 hours. Did you know that the village of Aÿ-Champagne was the main center of the Champagne industry in the 16th century, and still holds a very special place?
The kings of France had their own wine presses here, and Champagne wines were formerly known as "Vins d'Aÿ". The historic Coteaux d'Aÿ are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the vineyards are classified as Grand Cru at the highest level of the appellation. This is where we'll take you, to discover part of its historic village and famous vineyard, and where we'll talk to you about the work of the vine, grape varieties, this exceptional Terroir and sustainable viticulture.
We'll also stop off in front of the headquarters of renowned Aÿ Champagne Houses such as Bollinger, Deutz and Ayala. You'll meet a family of independent grower/producers who will open the doors of their cellar, press and winery to reveal the process of making their champagne and its specific characteristics. The visit will be followed by a tasting of several of their Champagnes.
In the famous village of Hautvillers, called "the cradle of Champagne", we'll also thank Dom Pérignon at his tomb during a visit to the church where he officiated as a monk for decades. We'll tell you his story and that of Champagne, and you'll finally find out whether or not he was the inventor of Champagne!
We'll also stop off to admire one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Marne Valley, exactly where Dom Pérignon carried out all his experiments. It's the perfect spot in the heart of the vineyards for unforgettable photos of you and the breathtaking scenery. Champagne will no longer be a secret to you!
