Summer in
the Grand Est

Are you more of a beach or a mountain person? City or countryside? Choose not having to choose anymore: the Grand Est is the destination with all the possibilities!

Lac de Madine

The ideal destination for your next holiday

In summer, there’s a whole host of activities awaiting you in Grand Est: hiking in lush natural surroundings atop the Vosges Mountains’ ridges, getting acquainted with the animals in Argonne Park or observing them from Lake Der-Chantecoq and taking a refreshing dip in its waters, exploring the ruins of medieval fortresses, and enjoying a drink on one of the world’s most beautiful squares: the programme promises to be fascinating.

As a family, a couple or with friends, take full advantage of the landscapes and the mild weather and pedal your way along the Alsace Wine Route, the Voie Bleue cycle route, or the River Meuse. Combine heritage discovery, gourmet breaks and the pleasure of feeling the wind in your hair.

Heading up our mountains

The winds of freedom are blowing and you’re overcome by the need to be up there in the cool mountain air. So climb the Vosges Massif’s peaks and enjoy views over the whole region. And why not have a shot at a sunrise?

You can also explore the Grand Est by following one or more of the many hiking trails taking you through an amazing variety of landscapes. Still too hot? Then head for the superb mountain lakes, where you can bathe, paddle, go pedal-boating or simply enjoy a relaxing break with your family, surrounded by majestic mountain peaks.

The Vosges Mountains have gentle slopes, making them accessible to everyone, and provide a whole range of pleasures, gourmet treats included. Be sure to enjoy a traditional “marcaire” meal at a farm inn to top off your adventures.

School holidays require it! You’ve got the perfect excuse to brush up on your History and then set out in conquest of the many châteaux that shape the landscape along with its forests and mountain peaks.

It’s hard to sum it all up in a word or two. In summer, people like to stroll through their streets or laze the day away on their terraces. They outdo each other in order to keep us entertained, highlighting their heritage and talents: sound and light shows, projections of monumental images, street art festivals…
