Saint Nicholas is considered to be the ancestor of Father Christmas. Father Christmas is a mythical creature, whereas Saint Nicholas actually existed, as he was bishop of Myra, a trading city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) in the 3rd-4th centuries. He is considered to be the patron saint of Lorraine.
