Following on from the Marne-Rhine canal, this second stage takes you to a peaceful Lorraine, far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities.
Within the first few kilometres, the route takes you to Lagarde, where its small marina makes a charming stopover along the water. A perfect place for a contemplative break in a rural setting.
After a few more pedal strokes, don't miss Moussey, home to a unique example of 20th-century industrial heritage: Bataville, a factory town built by Thomas Bata in the 1930s. The site is fascinating for its modernist architecture and its social history. Then it's on to the great outdoors with the Gondrexange lake, a haven of peace in the middle of nature, ideal for escapism and contemplation. At Réchicourt-le-Château, you'll pass the highest Freycinet lock in France, an impressive engineering structure that dominates the canal.
The journey ends in Sarrebourg, a town where art and history meet in harmony. To round off the day, let yourself be guided along the Chagall trail, which links the Chapelle des Cordeliers - illuminated by a monumental stained glass window by Marc Chagall - to the Musée du Pays de Sarrebourg. Here you will discover a space dedicated to the artist, a fine collection of earthenware and porcelain from the Niderviller factory, and Gallo-Roman remains bearing witness to the region's ancient past. An essential cultural stop-off on your itinerary.
