Arrival in Strasbourg, European cycling capital
From the marina at Saverne, the route winds its way peacefully along the Marne-Rhine canal, on a fully-developed greenway all the way to Strasbourg. This final section of the V52, shared with EuroVelo 5, offers a gentle, accessible escape through the open landscapes of the Alsace Plain, between cultivated fields, small forests and typical villages.
After leaving Saverne, the route passes through a rural landscape and close to picturesque villages such as Otterswiller, Lupstein and Dettwiller, offering lovely views over the Alsatian countryside. Along the way, you'll want to stop off at Hochfelden, one of Alsace's leading brewing centres. This is where you'll find Villa Météor, housed in the oldest brewery still in operation in France. An immersive and lively place to visit, it plunges the curious into the world of beer, between tradition and innovation. The rest of the route follows a regular greenway, away from any traffic: an ideal section for families or cyclists in search of peace and quiet.
The finish in Strasbourg is a fitting conclusion. A European capital and a city of art and history, Strasbourg is also France's leading cycling city. Take time to stroll through its narrow streets, discover the picturesque Petite France district, with its half-timbered houses lining the canals, admire its pink sandstone cathedral, a jewel of Gothic art, or sit down at a winstub to savour Alsatian cuisine. A final stop that combines nature, culture and the art of living.
