Vineyards, typical villages and relics of the past

Between hills, memories and gently sloping vineyards, this stage of the cycle route reveals an authentic and unspoilt Alsace.

From Turckheim, the route plunges into the heart of the southern Alsace vineyards, where the vines hug the slopes of the hills against a backdrop of the Vosges mountains. Here, Alsace becomes wilder and more mountainous, offering spectacular panoramic views from the heights. The route winds its way through orchards, low stone walls and open valleys, in a soothing atmosphere.

There are plenty of meaningful stops along the way: Eguisheim, a circular village with a unique charm classed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France"; Rouffach, recognisable by its imposing church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, with its Gothic and Romanesque styles; Guebwiller, awarded the 4-flower label and the "Territoire Vélo"; Cernay, gateway to the Vosges peaks; and finally Thann, the southern gateway to the Alsace Wine Route, situated on the outskirts of Vieil Armand, a place of remembrance of the First World War. The region's natural, architectural and historical heritage is evident at every turn.

On little-travelled roads and well-maintained vineyard paths, this stage offers a beautiful continuity in the heart of the vineyards of southern Alsace. The EuroVelo 5 signposting, combined with that of the Véloroute du Vignoble d'Alsace, will guide you peacefully to the gateway to the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park.
