Highlights

  • Crossing the Alsace Plain and the potassic basin

  • The Alsace Ecomuseum and the Little Prince Park in Ungersheim

  • Mulhouse, European capital of technical museums

From the plains to the industrial city, this stage takes you through nature, culture and living heritage.

After leaving the vineyards at Cernay, EuroVelo 5 continues through the Alsace plain, crossing the heart of the potash basin. The route winds its way through villages, forests and open fields, while offering great views of the local heritage. At Ensisheim, a charming flower-filled town, you're already on the doorstep of Mulhouse, but a diversion is in order at Ungersheim.

Ungersheim is an ideal family stopping-off point, with two emblematic sites: the Écomusée d'Alsace, a genuine reconstructed living village, and the Parc du Petit Prince, a poetic and playful immersion in the world of Saint-Exupéry. Just a few kilometres away, Mulhouse opens its doors to you, with its famous museums and its ambience combining industrial past and modernity.

The route gradually enters Mulhouse along a cycle path, continuing a peaceful stage that alternates between green lanes and little-travelled shared roads. The town, which is well equipped for cyclists and has been awarded the "Territoire Vélo" label, is a great place to explore on two wheels, with its museums, parks and industrial heritage.
