The Passerelle des Trois Pays, gateway to Switzerland
From museums to the crossroads of cultures, this stage takes you as far as the gates of Basel, in Switzerland.
From the industrial heart of Mulhouse, your itinerary takes you to the south of the Haut-Rhin, where you'll find a living heritage, unspoilt nature and a European outlook. The city, which has been awarded the Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (City of Art and History) label, boasts a unique heritage, embodied by its emblematic museums such as the Cité de l'Automobile and the Cité du Train. Mulhouse was also one of Europe's leading centres for textile printing, a skill that is still celebrated today in the Musée de l'Impression sur Étoffes.
As you travel along the route, the landscapes change: you enter the Saint-Louis region, a real link between France, Germany and Switzerland. On your way, make a diversion east to the Petite Camargue alsacienne, a nature reserve with a southern feel, or to the Fondation Fernet-Branca, a contemporary art centre nestled in a former distillery. Further afield, the Parc des Eaux Vives in Huningue invites you to relax on the banks of the Rhine.
The route, which is accessible and varied, alternates between cycle paths, minor roads and farm tracks, and always follows the EuroVelo 5 signposting. It ends on a high note at the Trois Pays footbridge, between France, Germany and Switzerland, with the cosmopolitan city of Basel in its sights.
