Visit Troyes: where shopping and
culture go hand in hand

In the heart of the département of Aube, Troyes awaits your discovery – a medieval city of old-world charm, famous for its half-timbered houses, incomparable industrial heritage, prestigious vineyards and unspoilt forestland.

Troyes, a compendium of heritage

Troyes possesses more half-timbered houses than any other city in France. Visiting Troyes means treating yourself to a real getaway into medieval history. With its narrow cobbled streets and colourful houses, the city takes you right back to the 15th century when it was the Counts of Champagne’s capital!

The city is also Europe’s stained-glass capital and you can admire its glass craftsmen’s astonishing knowhow in Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Cathedral. To learn more about this local craft, you can then make your way to the Cité du Vitrail housed in Hôtel Dieu le Comte, a museum wholly dedicated to these fascinating pieces of coloured glass (opening set for 2023).

Outshopping in Troyes

The last (but by no means least) title awarded to the city of Troyes: the European city with the most factory outlets. What could be better for a shopping spree! And its infatuation with fashion is nothing new, as the city was already our knitwear capital back in the 19th century. An activity that largely contributed to its wealth and reputation.

Vineyards on Troyes’ doorstep

Aube is France’s 2nd Champagne producing département. Troyes has always had a close relationship with the most famous of all sparkling wines, as its historic city centre is shaped like a champagne cork (which is why it’s nicknamed the Bouchon de Champagne!).

While you’re in Troyes, it’s well worth visiting the nearby vineyards. An opportunity to learn more about the winegrowers’ art and enjoy tasting some of their products!

To the east of Troyes, discover the magnificent Forêt d’Orient Regional Nature Park. The perfect spot to take a breath or two of fresh air and enjoy a whole host of activities: family walks, bike rides along the Grand Lacs greenway, bathing and water activities of all kinds!
