Visit the Verdun Memorial and immerse yourself in the Battle of Verdun, which took place in 1916 during the First World War. Located at the very center of the battlefield in Lorraine, this historic memorial was established in 1967 by veterans under the direction of Maurice Genevoix. It was completely renovated in 2016 to transport you even further into history!
The Verdun Memorial features a unique collection and impressive audiovisual devices, which will take you through the experience of soldiers, both French and German, during the Battle of Verdun. On the first floor, you’ll be immersed in the experience of front-line combatants. An audiovisual show recreates the highlights of the battle, combining archive footage and the artistic expressions of the soldiers. Around you, showcases display the everyday objects used by combatants, bearing witness to their life on the front.
On the second floor, you can explore the battle environment and understand the contexts of the countries at war. From the terraces on the top floor, you can contemplate a unique panorama, where traces of the battle still mark the landscape.
The Memorial tour lasts between 1h30 and 2 hours per person. Accessible to people with reduced mobility, it also offers reduced rates for young people, students, teachers, military personnel and job-seekers on presentation of proof. Free parking, a secure bike shelter and a charging station for electric vehicles are available on site.

The Verdun Memorial will only be closed on March 13, June 12 and November 27, 2024. Douaumont and Vaux forts remain open on these three dates. All three sites will close on December 25, 2024.

Created in 1967, under the aegis of academician and veteran Maurice Genevoix, the Verdun Memorial is a major place of History and Remembrance, anchored in the heart of the battlefield. On the battlefield, the museum offers an immersion in the battle of Verdun through the figure of the combatant, French or German.
More than 2,000 objects from the collections, French and German testimonies and exceptional audio-visual devices are combined to evoke the fighting experience of these men who came from all over the world.
