Gérardmer and the valley of lakes

The lake at Gérardmer is what makes this small town in the Vosges so famous. Set in a green setting, it is quite simply the largest natural lake in the Vosges!

Its crystal-clear waters invite water sports enthusiasts to try their hand at the various activities on offer. Electric boat trips, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, pedal-boating or water games for the kids: there's something for everyone! For the less sporty, there are several beaches where you can swim in complete safety. And for the more contemplative, there's fishing too!

Gérardmer lake can also be explored from land: take the path around the lake for a family walk. If you're feeling brave, climb up to the Mérelle observatory for a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding forests!

Not far from Gérardmer, Lac de Longemer is also a popular destination for activities away from the town. As for the discreet Retournemer lake, it can only be appreciated with the eyes! You are only allowed to walk around the lake.

A hiker's paradise

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned walker, a trail runner or a two-wheeler enthusiast, Gérardmer has something for everyone who loves nature and the great outdoors. And for a more unusual experience, the mountain paths can also be explored on an electric scooter!

In the Vallée des Lacs, there are over 350km of waymarked trails to enjoy all the magic of the Vosges and learn about the often fragile local flora and fauna. Waterfalls, ridges, shady forests and high-altitude meadows form a multitude of landscapes and just as many spots for a picnic break!

Gérardmer, on the road to the Vosges summits

Gérardmer is also the starting point for exploring the legendary peaks of the Vosges. Take the Route des Crêtes, the crossing point between Alsace and Lorraine, and admire the views.

Take a break at the summit of the Hohneck: in fine weather, you might be lucky enough to come across herds of cows grazing there and even a few chamois! At an altitude of 1363 m, the site offers exceptional panoramic views of the Vosges, the Black Forest and even the Alps.

And if you want to get a bit higher, why not take to the skies and discover these panoramas by paragliding?

Gérardmer in winter

With more than 80 km of downhill and cross-country ski runs, Gérardmer is one of the largest ski areas in the Vosges, with links to Xonrupt and La Bresse.

Wearing snowshoes, explore the trails on your own or with a guide and enjoy the beauty of the snow-covered landscape. For the youngest, head for the toboggan runs! And because snow activities are tiring, you can relax in the evening in the warmth of a spa. The perfect way to combine the pleasures of skiing and the spa during your weekend in Gérardmer!
