The Centre Pompidou-Metz pays tribute to François Morellet on the centenary of his birth with an exceptional retrospective. Presented from April 3 to September 28, 2026, this is the largest exhibition ever devoted to the artist. It invites the public to discover or rediscover a major figure in abstraction and the art of light, whose work has profoundly marked the history of contemporary art.
Bringing together nearly 100 works spanning more than 70 years of creation, the exhibition highlights the richness and coherence of a singular artistic career. François Morellet freely explores the tension between mathematical rigor and chance, between geometric order and visual disorder. His paintings, installations and light works testify to his taste for experimentation, humor and irony, while revealing a profound reflection on perception and space.
This large-scale project is part of the national 100 x Morellet program, initiated by the Centre Pompidou and deployed throughout France. In Metz, the exhibition offers a comprehensive and accessible look at the artist’s work. A daily guided tour of around 30 minutes is included in the admission ticket, providing a better understanding of François Morellet’s creative process, artistic choices and aesthetic challenges.
A true cultural highlight, this exhibition is aimed at art lovers and curious visitors alike.
Book your tickets now, and let yourself be surprised by the interplay of form and light, and enjoy an intense artistic experience at the heart of the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
