Travel back in time to medieval times. In the heart of the city, the gigantic Château Fort de Sedan opens its doors to you for tours and events all year round. The town’s jewel attracted over 145,000 visitors in 2024, making it the must-see tourist attraction in the Ardennes.
Known as the « Giant of the Ardennes », the Château features imposing, fortified military architecture. Covering an area of 35,000 m2, it has 7 storeys, 2.60 m-thick surrounding walls and ramparts ranging from 7 to 26 m in thickness, reflecting its status as a fortified castle.
A complete individual tour will take you on a journey of discovery of the bastions, ramparts and the many techniques and tricks that made the château such an impregnable fortress. There are some 15 scenographic rooms. You’ll then enter the Galerie des Princes, where a buffet awaits you. You are invited to the wedding of Charlotte de la Marck to Henri de la Tour d’Auvergne. You’ll also discover the history of the Principality of Sedan, the daily life of the Princes, the symbols of their power such as their currency, and this fabulous collection of armor, taken to Paris by Napoleon!
