Micro-adventure “Rando à l’assaut des Châteaux” starting from Colmar in Kut’Zig

Are you a hiking enthusiast or looking for adventure? Set out to explore the historic and cultural villages of Alsace on a day trip. A “Castle Hike,” during which you’ll discover Alsace’s ancient fortified residences in all their authentic glory.

Ready for an adventure? Meet in Colmar at 8:30 a.m. and hop aboard the Kut’zig. Heading toward the Wine Route, this open-top bus will treat you to lush, rural landscapes along the way before stopping in Ribeauvillé. From this charming village, walk up to Saint Ulrich to reach the largest of the three castles overlooking the town. The round trip will take about 2 hours, but for the more adventurous, you can continue on to Hunawihr before boarding the Kut’zig again.

Once you arrive in Kaysersberg, you’ll be treated to a gourmet picnic freshly prepared by a local bakery. Take advantage of this short break to appreciate the village’s beauty, and settle into one of its squares to enjoy your lunch. You can also head to Schlossberg Castle for a royal picnic with a view. This is the perfect opportunity to combine history with fine dining, as this 13th-century castle has been listed as a historic monument since 1841.

After a tasting of four wines at a Turckheim winery, this micro-adventure will take you to Eguisheim, the village voted “the French people’s favorite” in 2013. Take some time to admire its half-timbered houses, then head to the fortified complex of the Castle of the Counts of Eguisheim. Dedicated to Leo IX, the pope who was born in the village, the chapel will captivate you with its Neo-Byzantine architecture.
