The Unterlinden Museum is an essential stop for art and history lovers and travelers passing through Colmar.
The museum’s visit route offers a journey through over 7,000 years of history, from the Stone Age to the present day. With its collections of paintings and sculptures from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as well as its representative works of Rhineland Art, it is one of the most visited sites in the Alsatian city.
The Unterlinden Museum in Colmar is located in the former convent of the Dominican nuns of Colmar, built in the 13th century. Of Gothic style, this place itself constitutes a true artistic and architectural treasure. The vaults with intersecting ribs and flying buttresses are revealed during the visit.
The Issenheim Altarpiece is one of the masterpieces of the Unterlinden Museum: this exceptional work consists of a set of several painted panels connected by a central carved case. This magnificent polyptych was created by two masters of German art, Nicolas of Haguenau and Matthias Grünewald, around 1510.
Among the must-sees at the Unterlinden Museum are also the engravings and paintings of the famous Rhineland artist, Martin Schongauer.
The Unterlinden Museum also dedicates a beautiful space to the great figures of modern and contemporary movements, including Monet, Dubuffet, or Picasso.
Finally, archaeological objects used in daily life in the past, such as hunting or war weapons, funeral accessories, or decorative treasures of goldsmithing, are also on display.

The Unterlinden Museum offers a tour covering nearly 7000 years of history, from prehistory to 20th century art. This journey through time allows you to discover the multiple facets of the museum's
