Unterlinden Museum in Colmar
The Musée Unterlinden is a must-see for art and history enthusiasts and visitors to Colmar.
The tour takes visitors on a journey through more than 7,000 years of history, from prehistory to the present day. With its collections of paintings and sculptures from the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, as well as representative works of Rhenish art, it is one of the most visited places in the Alsatian city.
The museum is housed in the former Dominican convent of Colmar, built in the 13th century. The Gothic-style building itself is a veritable artistic and architectural gem. The cross vaults and flying buttresses are revealed during the visit.
The Issenheim Altarpiece is one of the museum's masterpieces: this exceptional work consists of a series of painted panels linked by a central carved box. This magnificent polyptych was created by two masters of German art, Nicolas de Haguenau and Matthias Grünewald, around 1510.
Other highlights include engravings and paintings by the famous Rhineland artist Martin Schongauer.
The Musée Unterlinden also devotes a fine space to the great figures of modern and contemporary art, including Monet, Dubuffet and Picasso.
Archeological objects used in everyday life in the past, such as hunting and war weapons, funerary accessories and decorative goldsmith's and silversmith's treasures, are also on display.

The Unterlinden Museum offers a tour covering nearly 7000 years of history, from prehistory to 20th century art. This journey through time allows you to discover the multiple facets of the museum's
