Visit of the Renoir Cultural Center

Enter the intimate world of Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) and discover his life's journey and his experiences as an artist. When you purchase your individual "Du Côté des Renoir" ticket, you'll enjoy a 1h30 to 2h guided or self-guided tour of the Centre Culturel Renoir.

Auguste Renoir was predisposed to drawing and quickly made a name for himself with his remarkably talented portraits, becoming a true master of Impressionism. The self-guided tour takes you on a Renoir journey, passing through the Renoir family home in the heart of Champagne to the family garden and the painter's studio. You'll follow in the footsteps of the Renoir family as you discover the small village of Essoyes, now known as the Renoir village.

The self-guided tour begins at the Espace Renoir, housed in the former stables of the Château Heriot. Watch a short film about Essoyes and the master's creations, and be dazzled by the permanent exhibits arranged in thematic loges. Each lodge represents a theme that reveals a piece of the life of this family of artists. You can also discover the works of a number of sculptors in the temporary exhibition room. You're sure to be impressed by some new talents!

Then visit the family home, taking the path from the painter's studio, where you'll find an unforgettable memory: the glass roof, his wheelchair, his working tools and his canvases. Enter and find an interior preserved by time: Madame Renoir's kitchen, the dining room which is the centerpiece of the house. Upstairs, you'll get to know the man behind the artist, his daily life as husband and father, and their children's bedrooms.

The tour ends with a visit to the cemetery where the Renoir family is buried. He, his wife and sons are buried here.
