Let yourself be transported to the heart of history, on the impressive site of the Main de Massiges! This land, once torn apart by the Great War, is now a life-size open-air memorial. Accompanied by a guide from the Couleurs d’Argonne Tourist Office, you’ll immerse yourself in the daily lives of First World War soldiers, crossing 600 meters of restored trenches. A real plunge back in time, where each step reveals a piece of the past.
The landscape of the Main de Massiges looks strangely like a hand delicately placed on the ground, hence its name. This hill, witness to fierce battles from 1914 to 1918, is today an essential place of remembrance. During your visit, your guide will lead you through the trenches, passionately restored by volunteers from the association La Main de Massiges.
Your visit will give you an in-depth understanding of the fighting and living conditions of French and German soldiers in the trenches. You’ll discover a military architecture designed to adapt to the specific geological and geographical conditions of the region, including the trenches of the Champagne chalk region, built according to the unique properties of this soil. Lasting 2 hours, this experience is designed for groups of 6 adults or more. Don’t forget to bring season-appropriate clothing and walking shoes to ensure optimum comfort during the visit.
So book your visit now and let us guide you on this journey through time and history. You’ll leave with a new perspective on history, and perhaps even a new appreciation of the peace we know today.
