In the heart of the Champagne vineyards, La Cave aux Coquillages invites you to take a unique tour that combines wine country with geological treasures. Tucked away beneath the vineyards, this one-of-a-kind cave will transport you back 45 million years, to a time when a tropical sea still covered the region.
Accompanied by a passionate guide, you’ll explore over 500 meters of tunnels carved into the Lutetian rock. There, you’ll discover thousands of perfectly preserved fossilized shells, true testaments to a fascinating natural heritage. This extraordinary setting will also reveal the incredible influence of the soil on the aromas of champagne.
The tour will continue with a tasting of biodynamically produced cuvées, crafted by a family of winemakers spanning four generations. Through this sensory experience, you’ll be introduced to oenogeology: the art of understanding the connection between the land and wine.
Book your tour and let yourself be surprised by a unique encounter between the marine world and the art of champagne, in an unforgettable setting!

SARL LEGRAND-LATOUR - LA CAVE AUX COQUILLAGES
This is a Champagne cellar like no other, where geology, paleontology and oenology come together. Nestled on the slopes of the Marne Valley, a guided tour takes visitors back in time to the Lutetian era, 45 million years ago, when a tropical sea stretched as far as Champagne.
Exceptionally well-preserved fossils from this period, for which the area is famous, have been set in their natural context and presented along a trail of underground galleries.
The unusual nature of this cellar also highlights the special relationship between geology and the Champagne wines of the Legrand-Latour family estate.
