Guided tour of Troyes cemetery

Far from being a simple place of remembrance, the Troyes cemetery is a veritable open-air history book. Inaugurated in 1871 and covering an area of 11 hectares, the cemetery contains almost 15,000 graves that bear witness to the memory and heritage of Troyes.

During a 1h30 guided tour, and under the passionate guidance of Martine Demessemacker, you are invited to wander along a path where each alley tells its own story. You’ll come across the tombs of key figures such as Désiré Argence, Charles Dutreix, Gaston Arbouin and Jacques Paillot de Montabert, as well as more recent, emblematic graves such as those of Claudie Pierlot, a renowned fashion designer, or André Beury, a key figure in local cultural life.

The visit also highlights monuments charged with emotion: the tomb of the Tonnelier children, protected by a monumental angel, or that of Suzanne Bertrand, the young Trojan aviatrix who died tragically during her pilot’s license. Between funerary art, collective memory and singular stories, each step in this place invites us to reflect on time and destiny.
