Our head guide, Olivier Diaz, has 15 years’ experience as a mountain guide and runs the Destination Sport Nature company, sharing his passion for hiking and nature.
On your first day, admire the splendor of the Col du Calvaire at the Col de la Schlucht. The pass links Valtin to the Vosges mountains at Orbey in the Haut-Rhin. Nestled on the Route des Crêtes, between the Col du Bonhomme and the Col de la Schlucht, this strategic WWI route was used for logistics and defense. The Col de la Schlucht links the Meurthe and Vologne valleys in Lorraine with the Fecht valley in Alsace, a tributary of the Ill. The sources of the Meurthe and Fecht rivers are nearby. Enjoy lunch at the Gazon du Faing lookout and stay at the Hôtel Col de la Schlucht.
On your second day, explore the Col de la Schlucht to the Ferme Auberge du Breitzousen. The Col de la Schlucht, the pivot of the Vosges mountains, connects Le Valtin to Stosswihr, facilitating interdepartmental links. Also explore the Col d’Oderen, a secondary pass linking the Moselotte valley to the Vosges and the Thur valley to the Haut-Rhin. Lunch awaits you at the Hohneck lookout. Spend the night at the Ferme Auberge de Montagne.
On your third day of discovery, from the Ferme Auberge du Breitzousen to Markstein, you can admire the vast Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, created thanks to the initiative of three former regions: Alsace, Lorraine and Franche-Comté. This park, one of the largest and most densely populated in France, encompasses part of the urban units of the Alsace plain and the Belfort Gap. Enjoy lunch at the Rothenbakopf lookout and spend the night at the Auberge de Montagne.
And finally, on the fourth day, finalize your adventure from the Markstein to the summit of the Vosges, the Grand Ballon. The summit of the Grand Ballon, in the Haut-Rhin region of Alsace, offers spectacular panoramic views. The Route des Crêtes passes to the east of the summit, crossing a pass at an altitude of 1,325 metres, between Markstein and Hartmannswillerkopf. From the summit, admire the Vosges, Black Forest, Jura and Alps. A view of the Mont-Blanc massif is possible on a clear day.
Your accommodation at the Auberge de Montagne Le Breitzhousen offers a 360° view of Lac de la Lande and the surrounding mountains. Enjoy lunch with typical dishes such as assiette marcaire or Munster fondue, and feel all the magic of the Vosges.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to discover the Vosges Massif in all its splendor! And book this 4-day crossing!
