The route along the ancient Roman road, between history and nature
Following the paths of the vineyards, between pearls of Alsace and open landscapes, this stage plunges you into the very essence of the Wine Route.
From Châtenois, the Véloroute du Vignoble d'Alsace follows the curves of the Vosges foothills along the old Roman road. From here, the vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, rolling out their green and gold mantle, and the view opens out over the region's emblematic villages. The route passes through a land rich in wine-growing know-how and traditions, under the protective gaze of the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, the sentinel of Alsace.
Along the way, you'll come across some of Alsace's most emblematic villages: Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and Colmar, with their cobbled streets, colourful half-timbered houses, gourmet markets and well-established way of life. At every turn, there's a perched chapel, a slender bell tower or a winegrower's cellar. Between heritage, nature and the gentle way of life, each village reveals a different facet of Alsace.
This section of the cycle route mainly follows paved vineyard tracks. It's the ideal way to discover the Alsatian countryside at a leisurely pace, to the rhythm of your pedalling and the panoramic views.
