Along the river, between pink city and Renaissance charm

On this third leg, leaving from Vitry-le-François, hop on your bike and head for Saint-Dizier, following the calm of the canal between Champagne and Burgundy, an accessible and peaceful route that combines river scenery, authentic villages and a remarkable urban heritage.

In Vitry-le-François, often nicknamed the "Pink City" in reference to the Savonnières stone that colours its facades, take a moment to discover the unique urban planning of this post-war town, rebuilt on a grid plan around a majestic Place d'Armes. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame and the Musée de la Batellerie are reminders of the intense river activity that marked local history. Water is omnipresent here, and the very layout of the town reflects this, with pleasant walks along the canals and the river.

From the very first kilometres, the cycling atmosphere is gentle: the path runs alongside the canal between Champagne and Burgundy, lined with trees that alternate between light and shade, perfect for an effortless yet atmospheric ride. Along the way, you'll pass through pretty Champagne villages such as Orconte and Sapignicourt, where it's good to take a contemplative break, listen to the birdsong or observe some of the historic locks on the canal.

Throughout the stretch, the river landscape alternates between open plains and shady tree-lined passages, offering a soothing atmosphere ideal for relaxing and enjoying nature. The stage ends gently at Saint-Dizier, where the canal guides you to the city gates.
