You can book a room in one of the town's many hotels or gîtes. You can spend the night in a 4-star hotel, for example, or in a historic building dating from the 18th century. There are also plenty of places to stay for a romantic getaway with your partner, the kids or a group. Whatever your choice (hotel, gîte or bed and breakfast), book your accommodation as soon as possible if you want to discover Strasbourg's Christmas markets: the city attracts many visitors who want to spend a weekend in Alsace at this time of year!

The Christmas market is held in the centre of Strasbourg at various locations on the Grand-Île. The market can be visited on foot: it takes around 5 minutes from the Place Broglie (where the famous Christkindelsmärik is held) to the Place Kléber (where the large illuminated Christmas tree is located). Access is free. For a more unusual experience, you can also visit the Strasbourg and Alsace Christmas markets on board a bateau-mouche, sailing along the Ill and Rhine rivers.

Strasbourg is home to one of the oldest and largest Christmas markets in Europe. In the Middle Ages, people began holding a market in honour of the feast of St Nicholas on 6 December. It later became known as the Christkindelsmärik (Christ Child Market). The tradition was born.

Choose public transport or cycle. The city centre can be reached from the station in just 15 minutes on foot, or by tram. The most central tram station is Homme de Fer (which is the only tram stop in the city centre during Christmas market opening hours). On-street parking is banned throughout the Grande Île from 27 November. Priority should be given to the 11 park-and-ride facilities (P+R Rotonde, P+R Parc des Romains, P+R Baggersee, P+R Ducs d'Alsace, P+R Elsau, P+R Hoenheim Gare, P+R Krimmeri Stade de la Meinau, P+R Rives de l'Aar, P+R Robertsau Boecklin, P+R Poteries, P+R Espace Européen de l'Entreprise).

During the festive season, it's difficult to get around the city centre by car. So it's highly advisable to park your car in one of the city's car parks. See all the charging points in Strasbourg for recharging your vehicle.
We recommend that you park in one of the following car parks, which have charging points: Parking Gutenberg (4-minute walk to Place Kléber), Parking Austerlitz (9 minutes), Parking Saint-Nicolas (12 minutes by tram).
