Discover the hidden treasures of one of the Vosges’ must-see destinations: the Musée de Mandray hydraulic sawmill. Located in the center of a picturesque village, the site is part of the Ballons des Vosges Natural Park, 10 km from Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and 25 km from Gérardmer.
A variety of programs lasting 1 or 2 hours await you on site. The program includes a demonstration of water-powered plank sawing, followed by a guided tour of the hydraulic and mechanical installations. In the heart of a picturesque village, come and discover a site where, since the 16th century, a waterwheel has successively driven a flour mill and then a sawmill, which is still in operation today. Discover an ingenious mechanism capable of transforming a tree into a plank by the sheer force of water. Follow the path of the water as it cascades over the wheel from canal to siphon, driving the formidable mechanism that activates the saw blade. Guided tours, sawing demonstrations, permanent exhibitions, animated models and a bucolic stroll will give you an idea of how the mill works.
