First steps in leather goods
Want to find out more about the saddlery trade? With friends, on your own or as a couple, come and discover leatherworking through this introductory course (limited to 6 people) led by Sarah Fallay-Rigal, artisan saddler.
You’ll be able to take your first steps in leatherworking by making your own customized belt. Saddlery know-how and the discovery of leather will be gently approached during these 3 hours in Sarah’s workshop.
Once you’ve been introduced to the workshop, you’ll take your measurements and calculate the material required. A variety of tools will be at your disposal, including formers, knives, abat-carre, cookie cutters, compasses… Sarah will guide you step by step through the creation of your piece. Come and immerse yourself for half a day to discover the different leathers, learn about the material, get to grips with the different tools and leave with a tailor-made object!
Sarah Fallay-Rigal trained for a year at the Haras de La-Roche-sur-Yon with Michel Charrier (MOF), and after a stint as a saddler, harness-maker and saddler at the Ecomusée d’Alsace, she set up her own business in 2018.
Handwork is a priority in this workshop. Wherever possible, raw materials are selected in France. In this way, Sarah Fallay-Rigal contributes, in her own small way, to preserving an entire industry that has been involved in the enhancement of skins for centuries. Leather from cattle, sheep and goats is in fact a by-product of butchery. His work therefore brings us into the circle of recycling and reuse.

S.R. Equestrement Vôtre
Once I had my master’s degree in history and archaeology, and after a few months of reflection, I realized that, in order to combine my love of horses and my need to work with my hands, I needed to move towards a more manual profession. After a one year training at the Haras de La-Roche-sur-Yon with Michel Charrier (MOF), a period as a saddler and harness maker at the Ecomusée d’Alsace, I have been self-employed for more than 2 years. The heart of my know-how is the harnessing of horses, as well as other animals, such as oxen, goats and dogs for example. I also make different items of saddlery and leather goods, keeping some equestrian elements, like harness buckles and the leather used is usually the same as the one I use in the harnessing.
