Are you a fan of architecture or history? How about a historical getaway to the town of Pont-à-Mousson? Once a month, from June through December (except in September), a guided tour of the Abbaye des Prémontrés, a historic monument, will be open to the general public. This is an opportunity to discover the architectural features of this 18th-century building and to shed light on certain aspects of the history of Pont-à-Mousson and the Lorraine region.
Visiting the Prémontrés Abbey is like taking a fascinating journey through the art and history of Lorraine. Deeply marked by the ravages of war, this monastic monument has undergone numerous phases of transformation since the Premonstratensian community settled in Pont-à-Mousson around 1608 up to the present day. A place of religious instruction, a civilian and military hospital, a municipal library, a historic monument since 1906, and a cultural center… Each era has left its mark here, and your tour guide will highlight the key points during the visit.
Lasting about 1 hour, this guided tour will also highlight the abbey’s architectural features. Take the time to explore the abbey church, the warming room, and the refectory, and climb the Matins Staircase, savoring every step. Weather permitting, your guide will also take you to the estate’s remarkable gardens. There, you’ll be able to admire the building’s grandeur from the outside—a sight you’ll definitely want to capture!
Limited to 20 people per session, this cultural tour also includes free admission to the abbey’s current exhibitions. Be sure to check the center’s cultural program to kill two birds with one stone.
