Enjoy an unforgettable private day with your local guide through the most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites and landscapes of Champagne, from Reims to Epernay, stopping off at the most famous villages and vineyards of the Marne Valley.
Reims Cathedral, the site of the coronation of the kings of France and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the first essential stop on your Champagne tour. Before exploring its interior, your guide will tell you all about its history and mysteries!
In Epernay, the capital of the Champagne vineyards, we’ll cross the Avenue de Champagne. It’s considered the most expensive avenue in the world, with its prestigious champagne houses, mansions and 100 kilometers of cellars hiding 200 million bottles!
You’ll discover the Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards and villages of the historic Coteaux, which have been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 2015 and are planted mainly with Pinot Noir grapes.
Did you know that the village of Aÿ-Champagne was the main center of the Champagne industry in the 16th century, and still holds a very special place? The kings of France had their own wine presses here, and Champagne wines were formerly known as “Vins d’Aÿ”.
We’ll take you on a tour of its famous Grand Cru vineyards, where we’ll talk about vine work, grape varieties, this exceptional terroir and sustainable viticulture. We’ll also stop off in front of the headquarters of renowned Champagne houses such as Bollinger, Deutz and Ayala.
You’ll meet a family of independent producers who will open the doors of their cellars, presses and wineries to show you how their Champagne is made and what makes it special. The visit will be followed by a commented tasting of several of their Champagnes.
In addition to the Champagnes, you’ll taste the famous Champagne spirits: Ratafia, Fine de Marne and Marc de Champagne from Distillerie Goyard, Champagne’s oldest distillery.
In the famous village of Hautvillers, called “the cradle of Champagne”, we’ll also thank Dom Pérignon at his tomb during a visit to the church where he officiated as a monk for decades. We’ll tell you his story and that of Champagne, and you’ll finally find out whether or not he was the inventor of Champagne!
We’ll also be sure to stop and admire one of Champagne’s finest panoramic views over the Marne Valley, exactly where Dom Pérignon carried out all his experiments. It’s the ideal spot in the heart of the vineyards to take unforgettable photos of you and this breathtaking landscape.
For lunch, we’ve selected some of the most popular champagne bars and eateries in the area to share a convivial moment*. On the menu, to accompany your flutes of Champagne (one bottle for 2), examples include gourmet boards of charcuterie and cheese with bread and salad, farmhouse ready meals, terrines, pâtés, regional cookies and coffees.
