A real Christmas fairytale

Take a stroll through the Colmar Christmas market, reputed to be one of the most famous in France, and find some original gifts for your friends and family. In fact, there is not one... but six Christmas markets in Colmar, which adorn the town with their soft lights. Decorated with fir branches and sparkling baubles, the wooden chalets spread their Christmas magic. Every day from 25 November to 29 December, take a stroll down the aisles and learn all the secrets during a one-and-a-half-hour guided tour.

The only one of its kind in Colmar, children perform Christmas carols on board the town's boats. It's an emotional and touching experience.

Place des Dominicains

The superb Dominican church dominates Colmar's Christmas market. As soon as night falls, the square of the same name is sublimated by the colours of its magnificent stained glass windows. These masterpieces, dating from the 14th century, enhance the atmosphere of this historic square, which has become a must-see. Stroll through the aisles of chalets, browse the stalls of bredalas (traditional Alsatian biscuits) and find gift ideas for all the family.

The Koïfhus building and the Place de l'Ancienne Douane

The majestic Koïfhus building stands in the heart of Colmar's old town, on the Place de l'Ancienne Douane. It houses the Christmas market dedicated to designers and craftsmen. Colmar at Christmas can be visited on foot, but you can also take a boat trip on the peaceful Lauch river. Colmar is nicknamed "Little Venice", in reference to the picturesque houses that line the river. Let yourself be carried along by the water and enjoy this exceptional viewpoint. At the end of your walk, you can disembark on the Quai de la Poissonnerie. This used to be the home of the town's professional fishermen. Today, it is one of Colmar's most picturesque districts.

The Unterlinden Museum

If there's one cultural site you really shouldn't miss while in Colmar this Christmas, it's the Musée Unterlinden. Housed in the former Dominican convent, the Musée Unterlinden exhibits paintings and sculptures dating from prehistory, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the 20th century. It also houses treasures of modern art, including works by Picasso, Dubuffet and Monet, as well as the Issenheim Altarpiece. Discover it on a self-guided tour or with the help of an audio guide. During the Christmas market, don't miss the "Once upon a night" sound and light show , which illuminates and adds colour to the museum cloister as night falls.

A road trip along the Alsace Wine Route

The Alsace Wine Route is over 170 kilometres long. Awarded the "Vignobles et Découvertes" label, it can be travelled by car, bus or even by bike in the summer months for the more adventurous.

From Colmar, you can easily join the Alsace Wine Route. The Colmar region offers magnificent scenery, with plains, mountains and vineyards. On this stage, you'll discover a number of typical villages, including Eguisheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. Visit the local winegrowers and let them tell you all about the history of the vines and their wines. End your visit with a well-deserved wine tasting*, before heading off to a new destination.

Answers to your questions about the Colmar Christmas Market

This year, Colmar's Christmas markets welcome visitors from 25 November to 29 December 2025.
Opening times are as follows: Monday to Thursday, 11am to 7pm; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 8pm. On 24 December, the chalets will be open from 11am to 5pm. On 25 and 26 December, they will close at 7pm and 8pm respectively.

Note that the gourmet market and the Ferris wheel are open every day from 11am to 10pm, until 4 January (exceptionally closed on 31 December).

During the Christmas period, Colmar is entirely pedestrianised. If you're travelling by car, park in a P+R car park outside the town.

From the Parc des Expositions (Avenue de la Foire aux Vins), the free P+R car park is open on Saturdays and Sundays. Shuttle buses will drop you off(one trip every 10 minutes) just a stone's throw from the Christmas markets in Rue Saint-Eloi. Prefer to park in Colmar town centre? There are several pay and display car parks available to visitors. The St Josse, Mairie, Lacarre, Rapp, Montagne Verte, Gare/Bleylé (with free shuttle bus), Scheurer Kestner, St Eloi and Haslinger car parks are all close to Colmar town centre.

If you want to visit the Christmas markets around Colmar, the town offers you the Navettes de Noël du Pays des Étoiles (Christmas Shuttles from the Land of Stars ) with connections to Colmar station. The shuttle runs to Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Eguisheim, Turckheim, Munster and Neuf-Brisach.

Not far from Colmar, the Christmas markets in Mulhouse and Strasbourg will delight children of all ages. During the Christmas market, it's difficult to get around the town centre by car, and in some streets it's even forbidden.
