A magical stroll

In the heart of the city centre, on Place de la Réunion, is the Mulhouse Christmas market, the 3rd largest in Alsace. Here, the wooden chalets are decorated with a unique fabric, designed by a local designer. Reflecting Alsace's know-how, the Mulhouse Christmas market gives pride of place to local crafts and creations. You're bound to find the perfect gift for your loved ones! While you're strolling around, stop off for a glass of mulled wine or a taste of bredeles, the typical Alsatian Christmas cakes.

A host of events are planned to celebrate Christmas in Mulhouse, including the Fabric Workshop, the Textile Minute and the Christmas Greeters, all of which are sure to delight young and old alike.

A veritable institution, for over twenty years the town has been creating a new Christmas fabric to decorate the town's facades and enhance the town centre square. The design of the fabric is entrusted to a local designer. The town hall, decked out in its finest drapes, is home to the Boutique aux Étoffes, where the new creation is on exclusive sale in all its forms.

Mulhouse's Christmas market is located in the town centre, on Place de la Réunion, at the foot of the Temple Saint-Etienne, and can be reached on foot or by tram from the station. Tram line 1 crosses Mulhouse from south to north. It serves the station, the historic centre of Mulhouse, the Avenue de Colmar, the Mertzau (the Cité de l'automobile and the Parc expo) and the Bourtzwiller district. By car, you can park at the Porte Jeune car park or the Maréchaux car park.

This year's Mulhouse Christmas Market runs from 21 November to 27 December 2025, with the exception of 25 December. Opening times are as follows: Sundays from 10am to 8pm, Mondays to Thursdays from 11am to 8pm, Fridays from 11am to 9pm and Saturdays from 10am to 9pm. On Saturday 24 December, the Mulhouse Christmas Market will be open from 11am to 6pm, on 26 December from 12pm to 8pm, and on 27 December from 11am to 6pm.

This year, the fabric is called "Perles du Rhin" (Rhine Pearls), and features multiple blue and gold motifs celebrating Rhine traditions and Mulhouse's glorious textile past. Marie-Jo Gebel is responsible for the design.

Mulhouse owes its other name, the "City of the Bollwerk", to its Bollwerk Tower, a 14th-century vestige of the city's old fortifications. It is one of the few remaining towers from this period in Mulhouse. It is located in the Nordfeld district.

At Advent, the whole of the Grand Est region is abuzz with activity! Strasbourg's Christmas market is the biggest in Alsace, and also the oldest. It's about 1h20 from Mulhouse. The Colmar Christmas market is less than 1 hour from Mulhouse, and offers a picture-postcard backdrop of canals and half-timbered houses. Other Christmas markets, such as those in Nancy, Metz and Reims, also promise magical family moments.
