Its castral heritage is so vast and prodigious that it has even given rise to a dedicated itinerary. The 450km Chemin des châteaux forts d'Alsace (Trail of the fortified castles of Alsace ) winds its way through the foothills of the Vosges mountains, taking in no fewer than 80 legendary fortresses, including the famous Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg.

You can explore these castles on your own or on a guided tour, with fun activities such as Hohlandsbourg or Lichtenberg. It's enough to take the whole family back to the time of the valiant knights!
